Thank you to all who helped support this years candy buy back program. We bought over 60lbs. of candy! And we are donating the candy to the Blue Star Moms so they can ship it to the troops overseas. Thanks again, and we can't wait to see how much candy we get next year!

Metal/Nickel Allergies

Metal allergies are becoming more and more common. If you are allergic to metals you might be worried about your exposure to metal at the dentist. You should be! A lot of dentists still use metal materials to make crowns and fillings and some even put metal into root canals. This could be potentially life threatening for you who have an allergy. Just think of how much a metal would be able to get into your system to cause a reaction when it is against your mucous membranes 24 hours a day. In a root canal the metal could even have access to your bloodstream. At our office, we place a high priority in eliminating metals as much as possible from our restorations and we have ever since we opened almost 10 years ago. We use metal free tooth-colored posts and fillings and our crown buildups are also free of metal. We never use metal pins and never use metal in the root canal filling material.

When we do need to use a metal with an adult, we restrict that to high noble gold or surgical titanium. This means that almost everyone can receive an implant, even those of you who have a metal allergy. Titanium implants very rarely cause an allergic reaction. In fact, only about 20 cases have been reported all over the world since the time implants have been used.

If you have metal sensitivity and are stillworried about a reaction, there are blood tests available to make sure you would not be allergic to the titanium. Just ask us about implants. They are life-changing and easier than you might think. We do the entire procedure in our office. Except in rare cases, you would not have to be referred to another office for the placement or restoration of your dental implant.
